The goal of the Washington D.C. Geriatric Education Center Consortium (WAGECC) is to strengthen the geriatric workforce in order to improve the health, quality of life, and potential of older persons, particularly those in underserved areas.  WAGECC aims to accomplish this goal by providing interprofessional education and support to health care professionals, faculty and students. WAGECC’s curriculum incorporates facilitated learning through the humanities and arts to enhance the competencies of geriatric practitioners and to improve their ability to provide person-centered care.

WAGECC provides three primary educational programs:

Master Faculty Scholars Program ~ 160-hour faculty development. Health care professionals increase knowledge and skills in geriatrics/gerontology and enhance leadership, teaching, and quality improvement skill.

Professional Development Program ~ 40-hour education for health care professionals. Includes 20 hours of core curriculum; 6 hours of clinical observation in senior setting; and 14 hours electives and specialty programs in areas of professional interest.

Falls Prevention and Management ~ 4-hour workshops includes: AHRQ Falls Management Education; small group work with AHRQ FMP Toolkit; and Quality Improvement planning.
